Best Time to Post in Canada: Planning Around Six Time Zones
Canada stretches across six time zones. Here is how to pick posting times that reach the people you actually want to reach.

Six time zones, one audience
Canada runs from Newfoundland Time in the east to Pacific Time in the west: Newfoundland, Atlantic, Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific. When it is 9 a.m. in Vancouver it is already 1:30 p.m. in St. John's. A post scheduled for "lunchtime" can only be lunchtime for part of the country.
| Time zone | Main provinces | When it's 12:00 in Toronto |
|---|---|---|
| Pacific | British Columbia | 9:00 |
| Mountain | Alberta | 10:00 |
| Central | Manitoba, most of Saskatchewan | 11:00 |
| Eastern | Ontario, Quebec | 12:00 |
| Atlantic | Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI | 13:00 |
| Newfoundland | Newfoundland and Labrador | 13:30 |
Saskatchewan does not change its clocks in summer, so its offset to the rest of the country shifts twice a year.
Start with your own numbers
Generic "best time to post" charts are averages across millions of accounts. Your audience is more specific. Both Instagram and TikTok show when your followers are online:
- Instagram: Professional dashboard → Insights → Total followers → Most active times.
- TikTok: Creator tools → Analytics → Followers → Follower activity.
Switch your account to a free professional or business account if you do not see these options. Check which cities your followers are in, too; Insights lists the top locations.
Practical rules of thumb
- Local business? Post for your own time zone. A bakery in Edmonton gains nothing from a post timed for Halifax.
- National audience? Most Canadians live in the Eastern time zone, so Eastern evenings are a sensible default. A post at 7 p.m. Eastern still lands at 4 p.m. in Vancouver.
- Two peaks: if your followers are split between Ontario and BC, test one post timed for each coast rather than one compromise slot.
- Test for two weeks, change one variable at a time, and compare reach in Insights, not likes alone.
Timing is a multiplier, not the content
The right time helps a good post get its first views faster, and early activity is what lets a post travel further. It will not rescue a post nobody wants to watch. If your account is new and the first impression is the problem, a small follower or TikTok views package can help the profile look established while you find your rhythm.
