How to Grow on TikTok in Canada: A Practical Playbook
A no-nonsense plan for Canadian creators and small businesses who want more views and followers on TikTok.

1. Win the first two seconds
TikTok decides quickly whether to keep showing a video, and viewers decide even faster. Open with the result, the question or the surprise, not with "Hi guys". Put a short text hook on screen for people watching with the sound off.
2. Pick a lane and stay in it
Accounts that post about one thing are easier for TikTok to place in front of the right people. A Montreal food account, a Banff hiking account or a Toronto small-business account each has a clear audience. Mixing everything together makes that harder.
3. Make it recognisably Canadian when it fits
- Show the places: your city, your neighbourhood, the weather everyone is talking about.
- Use local references people in Canada will instantly get.
- Add a location and one or two city or province hashtags alongside your topic hashtags.
4. English, French, or both
English and French are Canada's two official languages, and in Quebec most people speak French at home. If part of your audience is in Quebec, French captions or subtitles on a few videos are a cheap test. Bilingual on-screen text works well for short clips.
5. Post on a rhythm you can keep
Three good videos a week for three months beat fifteen rushed videos in one week and then silence. Batch-film on one day, edit on another, and schedule posts for when your followers are active (see our guide to posting across Canadian time zones).
6. Read your analytics, not your mood
In TikTok Analytics, watch average watch time and the share of viewers who finish the video. When a format holds people longer, make more of it. When a video flops, change one thing next time: the hook, the length or the topic.
7. Talk back
Reply to comments, and reply to good questions with a video. It turns one viewer's question into your next piece of content and shows new visitors that the account is alive.
Where a boost fits in
A brand-new account with zero views makes even a good video look untested. Some creators use a small TikTok views or TikTok followers package so the profile does not look empty while they build. That is social proof, not reach: TikTok will only keep pushing a video if real viewers watch it. Treat any boost as a first push for content that is already worth watching.
